We refer to the letter dated 14 August 2002 from the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (“Exchange”) with regard to the following sentences in a news article appearing in the Star, Business Section, page 1, on Wednesday, 14 August 2002 :- 1. “… the letters were despatched in the middle of last week… DRB-HICOM Bhd and Emrail Sdn Bhd… are expected to be awarded 30% of the project value, which is estimated at between RM12 billion and RM15 billion.”

2. “DRB-HICOM has also secured a letter of intent from the government for the 7.5 km extension of the Klang Valley commuter network from Sentul to Batu Caves, which entails the upgrading of the current single track to an electrified double track and construction of new infrastructure.”

In respect of item 1, we wish to confirm that DRB-HICOM had, on 8 August 2002, received the Letters of Intent from the Ministry of Transport. The Letters of Intent pertain to the following projects:

(i) Design, construction, completion, testing, commissioning and maintenance of the double track project between Seremban – Johor Baru; and

(ii) Design, construction, completion, testing, commissioning and maintenance of the double track project between Ipoh – Pulau Pinang – Pulau Besar.







We did not make any announcement on the receipt of the said Letters of Intent for the reason that the letters were classified as “GOVERNMENT SECRET”. For the same reason, we are not, at this point of time, in a position to confirm or deny any of the details reported in the above-mentioned news article in respect of the subject-matters.

In respect of item 2, we wish to confirm that DRB-HICOM had, on 13 April 2001 received the Letter of Intent from the Ministry of Transport pertaining to the “Projek Landasan Berkembar Elektrik Di Antara Sentul – Batu Caves”.

We did not make any announcement on the receipt of the said Letter of Intent for the reason that the letter was classified as “GOVERNMENT SECRET”. For the same reason, we are not, at this point of time, in a position to confirm or deny any of the details reported in the above-mentioned news article in respect of the subject-matter.

Announcement(s) will be made to the Exchange at the appropriate time.

We refer to the above news article appearing in The Star, Business Section,
page 1, on Wednesday, 14 August 2002, a copy of which is enclosed for your
reference.
In particular, we would like to draw your attention to the underlined
sentences, which are reproduced as follows:-
